The beloved Breakfast Runza makes a comeback in Hastings to support local organization Threads of Grace.

HASTINGS, Neb — The Breakfast Runza has made a brief but impactful return in Hastings, aiming to raise funds for a local organization.

Eager customers formed long lines at the drive-thru as early as 5:45 a.m., all to savor a breakfast sandwich that some hadn’t tasted since the 1980s, while others were experiencing it for the first time.

Sarah Wolf, a local teacher on summer break, shared her excitement: “I got in line at 6 a.m. to finally try the legendary Breakfast Runza I’ve heard so much about.”

Jeff Kully, a Threads of Grace board member, expressed his anticipation: “Born and raised in Nebraska, I’ve had plenty of Runza’s, but this will be my first time sampling the breakfast sandwich.”

The West 2nd Street Runza location prepared only 250 breakfast sandwiches, each with a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds were dedicated to Threads of Grace, a local organization that supports children in need.

Runza Restaurants’ Director of Marketing, Becky Perrett, explained the choice of charity: “We asked all three Hastings managers who they would like to support, and they chose Threads of Grace.”

Sarah Wolf praised the organization’s work: “Threads of Grace does an outstanding job providing clothing for those going through tough times. Helping them feel confident is essential.”

A Threads of Grace co-founder highlighted ongoing community challenges: “We see a lot of homelessness and families still struggling from the financial impact of COVID. Our community still has many foster children in need.”

Finally, Jeff Kully took his first bite of the Breakfast Runza, sharing his verdict: “It’s pretty tasty, a little egg, a little cheese, got some sausage in there. It’s well worth the hype,” he said with a smile.

The Hastings Runza location sold out of the breakfast sandwiches, serving 76 vehicles through the drive-thru alone.
